Definition of tow types and requirements regarding primary services performed by tow companies, that ICBC may be billed for.
Claim required tows
Claim required first tow
For claim required first tows, the tow company provides:
- a priority response
- loading and securing of the vehicle for transport (up to ten minutes)
- debris clean up
- the first six kilometres of traveling distance with the vehicle loaded
- dolly usage, up to and including thirty two kilometres
- unloading the vehicle, and
- travel time and distance to the vehicle included in the tow.
Claim required second and additional tow
The second or additional tow of a vehicle from a tow yard facility to a repair or an ICBC facility.
For claim required second and additional tows, the tow company provides:
- loading and securing of the vehicle for transport
- the first six kilometres of traveling distance with the vehicle loaded
- dolly usage, up to and including thirty two kilometres
- vehicle moves to complete an inspection in a tow yard facility
- unloading the vehicle, and
- travel time and distance to the vehicle included in the tow.
Unusually difficult road condition tow
The Unusually Difficult Road Conditions rate is applied to situations when road conditions slow the speed of travel to and from an accident/recovery scene to the extent that substantial additional time is required and the distance charge-out rate is not appropriate. Mileage charges are not applicable during the time this rate is applied.
Examples of difficult road conditions:
- unplowed with deep snow
- untraveled with ice
- deeply mudded
- flooded
- deeply rutted, and
- washed out.
Note: Difficult road conditions do not include traffic congestion.
Vehicle tow with missing wheels or tires tow
The retrieval and tow of a vehicle that has missing wheels or tires. Additional service charges occur when there are tows for vehicles with:
- two or more wheels/tires missing or flat, on different axles
- lowered vehicles, and
- burnt vehicles.
