Finish, sand, and buff

Information regarding finish, sand, and buff applications, including a description and eligibility.

Description

Finish, sand, and buff is a refinishing process that involves wet sanding an entire panel, then compound buffing by mechanical or hand polishing, plus cleanup to produce a smooth finish to the entire panel surface.

This includes the removal of any blemishes to the entire panel that affect paint texture, including orange peel.

Eligibility

ICBC only considers paying for this operation when the pre-crash paint finish surface texture level cannot be duplicated during the refinish process in the paint booth.

Finish, sand and buff applications require that the pre-crash paint finish have no evident paint flaws, such as orange peel, nibs, or runs.

To qualify for payment of finish, sand, and buff, participants must upload photos to Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE) to support that the
  • pre-crash paint surface had no peel or flaws evident, and
  • applicable panel was fully sanded prior to polishing.
