Determine whether to replace undamaged tires

Steps to determine whether to replace undamaged tires on a vehicle.

When this applies

When a repair facility requests to replace an undamaged tire(s) on the same axle as a damaged tire being replaced.
Note: Vehicle safety must be a consideration, when considering a claim to replace an undamaged tire.

Procedure

  1. Determine whether to approve tire replacement:
    If ... Then ...
    • the OEM and/or tire manufacturer recommends replacing undamaged tires when a tire(s) on a corresponding axle(s) is being replaced, and
    • the replacement tire(s) is the exact make, size, speed rating, load index and tread pattern as the remaining undamaged tire(s)

    approve replacement of the undamaged tire(s).

    • the OEM and/or tire manufacturer does not recommend replacing undamaged tires when tire(s) on corresponding axles are being replaced, or
    • the undamaged tire(s) has 2/32" or less of wear left, or
    • the undamaged tire(s) has uneven tread wear due to incorrect tire pressure, misalignment or damage, or
    • tires have been changed previously and are already different on corresponding axles, or
    • one or more of the tires on the vehicle do not match the damaged tire, or
    • the tire has previous non-claim related damage

    do not approve replacement of undamaged tire(s).

    Note: When the OEM and tire manufacturer recommendations differ, follow the OEM recommendations.
