Tow service delays

List of reasons for tow delays or interruptions, and the requirements for managing them.

Tow service delay reasons

Tow services can be either delayed or interrupted due to
  • adverse weather conditions
  • traffic congestion
  • natural disasters such as floods or landslides
  • an excess of tow requests on the tow company vehicle fleet, and
  • vehicle pick-up or delivery taking place outside the tow company’s service area.

Requirements

When a tow is delayed, then the tow company must
  • communicate the reason for the tow delay to the ICBC facility that requested the tow service
  • complete the tow request within 24 hours, or
  • arrange to have ICBC dispatch another ICBC towing supplier to perform the tow when the tow request cannot be completed within 24 hours.

Requirements not met

When the requirements are not met, then ICBC has the option, with prior communication to the original tow company, to pass the tow request to the next tow company on the tow rotation list.
