Estimator requirements for recycled parts

Requirements for the estimator to use recycled parts on customer’s vehicle.

Requirements

The table presents the requirements the estimator must meet when using recycled parts on a customer’s vehicle.

Requirement Details
Part is available Estimator researches the availability of the recycled part with the Car-Part.com integrated search tool, ipro/Car-Part-pro, within Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE).
Defined part The defined part must include the vehicle:
  • year
  • make
  • model
  • body style, and
  • vehicle identification number (VIN).

The additional information may be requested by the recycled part supplier:

  • engine size
  • colour, or trim identification codes,
  • options and series.

The estimator must confirm before sending out a parts request:

  • whether there is a Replacement Cost Endorsement (APV286A) or New Vehicle Replacement Plus (NVR+) policy in effect, and
  • the make, model, trim level, body style and options of the vehicle
Economical to use Determines whether the recycled part will result in a more economical repair than with a new part. If no, then the estimator may:
  • renegotiate the price with the supplier
  • find another supplier, or
  • consider using alternative and/or exchange Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts.
Note: Complete orders are given higher priority than incomplete orders.
