Managing tow company lot lists
Tow companies with a storage facility must submit a lot list to ICBC, and ICBC views the list to determine if they have a financial interest in any stored vehicle.
When this applies
Tow companies contact ICBC, using the Tow Information Management (TIM) web based application, to identify
- whether vehicles in their possession have a reported insurance claim related to them, and
- if they are entitled to payment for tow and related costs.
Note: The TIM app is accessible from any device with an internet connection, including smartphones and tablets.
In efforts to minimize TIM search results that involve vehicles unrelated to insurance losses, tow companies are requested to submit vehicle information that pertains to
- vehicles involved in a collision or perceived comprehensive insurance loss, such as a stolen or vandalized vehicle
- impound lot orders (ILO) involving a collision
- municipal and private impounds, or
- abandoned vehicles.
Important: While tow companies can submit a vehicle identification number (VIN) at any time, the minimum requirement for list submission is on a weekly basis.
