Wheel alignment

A list of what is inspected and repaired during a wheel alignment on a vehicle.

What an alignment includes

An alignment includes all of the following:

Part/consideration What is involved
Sensors installing four sensors to ensure steering alignment and reference to the rear wheels.
Tires
  • checking tires for similar tread design, depth, and construction, and
  • checking and adjusting tire air pressure
Suspension components
  • checking ride height
  • checking and adjusting wheel bearings
  • checking caster, camber and toe-in (front and rear), and
  • adjusting caster, camber and toe-in (front or rear) including minor shifting of front and rear cross-member as necessary)
Steering
  • centering steering wheel
  • checking
    • steering axis inclination (SAI)
    • included angle
    • set-back, and
    • thrust angle.
Special consideration on collision alignment due to the concern for safety on a collision alignment, extra time will be taken to
  • check all steering and suspension parts in the area of the impact for damage or wear, and
  • ensure all parts have been correctly installed.

Record keeping

The repair facility must

  • complete wheel alignment as authorized
  • retain a claim-specific computerized print-out detailing all measurements, and
  • submit a copy with the Estimate or Appraisal.

An original invoice is not required.
