Finalize claim: damage consistent with non-collision cause of loss

The steps to take when the customer opts for a comprehensive cause of loss claim.

Prerequisites

The estimator reviews the damage and determines it is consistent with comprehensive cause of loss rather than collision.

When this applies

The customer attends an appointment with both the exposure owner and estimator to review the damage. The estimator explains the inconsistencies why the damage is not vehicle to vehicle. The customer opts for a comprehensive cause of loss claim.

Procedure

  1. Review the damage with the customer and estimator.
  2. Explain the effect the change to comprehensive cause of loss will have on their claim.
  3. Update the cause of loss according to the estimator’s determination.
  4. Update the file notes including
    • change of cause of loss
    • consistency of damage with new cause of loss
    • height measurements, and
    • indication of damages.

Note: This type of claim is not eligible for Claims Assessment Review.
