Process claim for split windshield

How to process a split windshield claim when there are two glass panes that are damaged at the same time.

When this applies

When a customer has a claim for a split windshield, the claim owner must assist in identifying whether the damage resulted from

  • one incident, or
  • multiple incidents.

This is to determine whether the customer has one claim with one deductible to be paid, or two claims with a deductible paid on each claim.

Procedure

  1. Determine whether the two glass panes were damaged at the same time.
    Note:
    • Sometimes the claim owner may consult with the estimator on the damage to assist in determining the number of claims.
    • There are two claims and two deductibles paid when the customer advises that both panes of glass were damaged at different times, or the investigation determines this same conclusion.

    • process the two panes of the split windshield as one claim
    • send an ICBC Glass Claim Information (CL462C) form to the customer, and
    • create a note explaining the reason for one claim.
    different times
    • process the two panes of the split windshield as two separate claims
    • send two CL462C forms to the customer
    • create a note documenting the reason for two claims, and
    • create a Prior claims association between the two claims .
  2. Advise the customer the outcome.
  3. Ensure any documentation the customer provided is attached to the claim.
