Partial theft estimating requirements
Requirements for the customer and estimator to have for a partial theft claim.
Customer requirements
A customer who submits a claim for equipment that has been stolen must substantiate the age, make, and model of the stolen articles. The customer must produce the following:
- invoices, and/or
- other supporting documentation, e.g. a bill of sale.
Estimator requirements
An estimator must do the following while working on a claim involving stolen equipment
- retain original customer invoices and/or supporting documentation on claim
- inspect the vehicle to ensure the physical evidence is consistent with the equipment claimed (e.g., wiring harness, brackets, speaker holes, etc.)
- pre-price the Estimate or Appraisal using the most competitive source (e.g., recycled, aftermarket, or most competitive supplier)
- investigate the theft claim thoroughly and document the information in ClaimCenter, and
- if subrogation exists, refer the claim to the claim owner or applicable exposure owner.
