Tow propane, natural gas, and fire damaged vehicles

Steps to arrange a claim required second and additional tow for natural gas, propane, and fire damaged vehicles.

When this applies

Due to potential health and safety hazards, overnight storage within an ICBC building cannot occur for vehicles:

  • damaged as a result of a fire or burn, and
  • fuelled by liquid propane gas (LPG) or compressed natural gas (CNG).

If a vehicle develops an LPG or CNG leak while in an ICBC building, you must:

  • tow the vehicle out of the building immediately
  • follow the Health and Safety guidlelines, and
  • not attempt to start or drive the vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Dispatch the tow of an LPG, CPG, or fire damaged vehicle to an ICBC facility.
    Note: The vehicle should preferably stay on the hook for the duration of the estimate, and must never be stored within the facility, post estimate.
  2. Determine the vehicle’s destination, based on the status of the estimate.

    can complete the estimate a total loss salvage facility.
    not a total loss repair facility.
    cannot complete the estimate a total loss (probable) salvage facility.
    not a total loss (probable) repair facility.
