Inconsistent damage indications
Indications that damage is not consistent with an unidentified motorist collision include but are not limited to the following:
- The age of the damage is not consistent with the stated date of loss, i.e. rust.
- Severe impact-type damage indicating impact with a stationary object.
- Wood, cement or other abrasive type residue in the damage area.
- Damage extending vertically and at the same depth at top and bottom indicating collision with a stationary object such as a pole, tree, abutment, garbage container, etc.
- Non-automotive paint deposits on the damaged area indicating collision with a stationary object.
- Fresh undercarriage damage, or dirt and debris underneath the vehicle indicating an off road excursion.
- Indications of rotation on wheels, tires or hubcaps indicating claimant’s vehicle was moving when damaged.
- Evidence of numerous scratches caused by branches.
