Handle overdue salvage payments

How to handle an overdue payment or vehicle removal, when a vehicle has been sold as salvage.

Prerequisites

A vehicle has been sold as salvage, and the buyer did not make a reasonable effort to notify ICBC of any disruptions that affected their ability to pay for the salvage on time.

When this applies

A payment has not been received within two business days of the award date or removal of the purchased salvage vehicle has exceeded two business days of the award date.
Note: Coordinating pick up of salvage may exceed the standard two day grace period as payments are made online and take time to process.

Procedure

  1. Determine how many days overdue the payment is.
    If it has been ... Then...
    two to five business days since award date apply the late pick-up fee for the applicable number of days the payment is overdue.
    Note: The IAA system auto generates a nightly batch email to the buyer when the account is in arrears.

    • advise your supervisor
      Note: Your supervisor will review the Performance Management policy to determine sanctions required.
    • suspend the buyer
    • apply appropriate late storage fee for the area, and
    • notify IAA, if applicable.
  2. Determine if the vehicle has been picked up.
    If payment has been made but the item has not been picked up ... Then ...
    within two business days of payment date
    • update the buyer account to reflect the applicable number of days the pick up is overdue, and
    • charge late fee once the vehicle is being picked up.

    • advise your supervisor
    • contact the buyer to discuss
    • send warning letter via email
    • consider suspension, if applicable
    • notify IAA of suspension applied, if applicable, and
    • update the buyer account to reflect the applicable number of days they are overdue.
