When this applies

When a heavy equipment or commercial vehicle has a claim open.

Commercial vehicles include
  • trucks
  • vans
  • buses, and
  • other vehicles used by businesses for transport, delivery, or other operational needs
Heavy equipment is defined as machinery more than 8,800 kg, including
  • excavators
  • bulldozers, and
  • other specialized equipment used in construction, agriculture, or industrial settings

Procedure

  1. Review coverage.
    1. Check tractor rate class and territory confirming correct one is listed.
    2. Check trailer rate class and compatibility.
    3. Check driver's licence to confirm class validity.
  2. Contact registered owner (RO) and driver.
    1. Obtain a statement regarding the loss details.
    2. Confirm the use of vehicle on the date of loss (DOL) .
    3. Confirm the residence of driver.
    4. Advise customer of loss of use coverage.
    5. Note the conversation with the customer on the claim.
  3. Arrange repairs for material damage.
    1. Determine declared value.
    2. Determine if claim is made for one or multiple units.
      Note: Each unit requires its own claim.
    3. Acquire repair facility information.
    4. Complete material damage notes on claim.
    5. Assign material damage portion to an estimator or appraiser.
  4. Open loss of use exposures for the maximum amount.
  5. Settle the claims.
