Prerequisites

When this applies

An auto claims specialist has a claim that involves heavy equipment or commercial vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Review coverage.
    1. Confirm that the tractor rate class and territory are correct.
    2. Check trailer rate class and compatibility.
    3. Check driver's licence to confirm class validity.
  2. Contact the registered owner (RO) and driver, if different.
    1. Obtain a statement regarding the loss details.
    2. Confirm the use of the heavy equipment or commercial vehicle on the date of loss (DOL).
    3. Confirm the residence of the RO and driver.
    4. Provide information regarding loss of use coverage.
    5. Review the repair process with the customer.
    6. Confirm if there are multiple units involved, that is whether the heavy equipment or commercial vehicle is towing a trailer.

    7. Obtain repair facility information.

  3. Add a note to the claim.
  4. Assign the material damage portion to an estimator or appraiser:
  5. Open loss of use exposures for the maximum amount.
  6. Continue to handle claim as usual.
