Handling equipment or parts upgrade requests on commercial tractor claims

Part(s) or equipment upgrades on commercial tractor claims are initiated by customer request only and are of no additional claim cost to ICBC. Requests are submitted to ICBC by the commercial collision repair facility and are reviewed by an estimator.

When this applies

The customer is requesting an upgrade to their part(s), equipment or both that was damaged in a crash.

Process

  1. Customer
    1. Requests an upgrade for damaged part(s), equipment or both.
  2. Commercial collision repair facility
    1. Writes a repair estimate reflecting all claim related damage, including
      • original part(s), equipment or both that were damaged in the crash, and
      • all applicable labour operations.
    2. Enters a Journal Note in Mitchell Connect, advising ICBC of the customers request of an upgrade to part(s), equipment or both.
  3. ICBC estimator
    1. Reviews repair estimate submission sent by the repair program participant.
    2. Determines if the customer is eligible for an upgrade.

      approved
      • advises the repair program participant and customer
      • cash settles for original damaged part(s), equipment or both, including
        • any labour operations that are applied on the repair estimate, and
        • betterment, if applicable, and
      • enters Inc on the damage repair estimate lines and sends approval back to repair program participant.
      Important: Part(s) or equipment with potential safety issues requires proof that the part(s) or equipment is replaced, prior to the cash settlement being issued to the customer.

      Note: The customer deals directly with the repair facility for the upgraded part(s) or equipment and any necessary labour operations, if applicable.
