Transfer of parts to recycled assemblies policy

The individual components included in a recycled assembly may not match the customers vehicle options. In certain instances, it may be necessary to transfer an undamaged part from a customers damaged assembly to a recycled replacement assembly. Examples of this include glass tint and trim options such as painted versus chrome door handles, lock cylinders or mouldings.

Applying removal and installation time

Mitchell labour time required for installing a recycled part is based on a new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) part, therefore, overhaul of all the components of a recycled assembly are included in the replacement time. When a collision repair program participant removes an undamaged component from the customer’s damaged assembly to install on the recycled assembly, they are entitled to an additional 50% of Mitchell Re&I time for the part being transferred to the recycled assembly.
Note: Participants must consider this additional cost when making decisions on parts, and be able to support their decision in a quality assurance (QA) assessment, audit, or performance review.

To be eligible for the additional removal and installation time, the program participant must make a manual line entry on the estimate with an explanation note related to the recycled assembly and provide photo documentation. This is not applicable if the recycled part price has been matched with like kind and quality or OEM parts.

parts of a recycled assembly are required for refinish no additional time for part removal and installation can be applied to the estimate.
Note: Participants must not request time to transfer customers’ original parts when the parts included with the recycled assembly are of similar kind and quality to the customer’s original parts. If the part was not included in the recycled assembly, no additional time can be applied for the replacement of that part. If parts of an assembly are correct but unusable due to condition, the participant should discuss this with the recycler for consideration of a price adjustment on the cost of the assembly.
