Apply the total loss handling fee to an estimate

Collision repair program participants can submit an estimate including the total loss handling fee in certain circumstances.

When this applies

When a vehicle is confirmed as a total loss by an ICBC estimator and the participant has met the following requirements, the participant can bill ICBC for the Total Loss Handling fee listed on the Collision Repair Facility Labour Rates and Material Allowances.
Note: This fee does not apply to vehicles that are an Obvious Total Loss.

In order to bill ICBC the Total Loss Handling fee, participants must:

  • complete their estimate in accordance with section 8.2 of the Collision Repair Program guide
  • document pre-existing interior and exterior damages with photos and estimate remarks
  • upload photos and all other applicable documentation to Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE), as outlined in the Digital Images/Documentation Checklist, section 8 of the Collision Repair Program guide
  • coordinate rental or Alternative Transportation Service (ATS) with customer, including retaining a copy of the signed Temporary Substitute Motor Vehicle (TSMV) insurance transfer form, if applicable
  • attempt the removal of license plates and personal belongings from the vehicle to return to the customer
  • attempt to obtain all keys, including spares, to be secured with vehicle
  • secure with the vehicle all parts that were removed during tear-down prior to being sent to ICBC salvage facility
  • identify claim number on windshield prior to being sent to salvage, and
  • ensure that the vehicle is protected from weather.
Important: Participants must comply with payment card industry (PCI) security standards. Any credit card copies or numbers must redacted in any documents uploaded.
