Budget Car and Truck Rentals regions, service features and fees

When Budget Car and Truck Rentals (Budget) is the preferred rental vehicle supplier in a region, they offer ICBC customers special service features on all rental vehicles with select additional fees allowed when invoiced.

Note: Customers can choose to use any rental vehicle supplier, but claim representatives recommend a preferred rental vehicle supplier to the customer, provided one is available in the customer's area.

Regions covered

Budget is the preferred rental vehicle supplier in the following regions:
  • North Island
  • Victoria, and
  • South Interior's select regions include the following:
    • East Kootenays
    • Kamloops - Merritt
    • Kelowna
    • West Kelowna - Peachland
    • North Okanagan - Shuswap, and
    • South Okanagan.

Service features and additional fees

Budget vehicle features ensure that the customer receives superior service and high-quality vehicles.

The following lists the vehicle and service features available, and additional fees:

  • All Budget rental vehicles
    • have less than 50,000 kilometres (km) on the odometer, and if a truck it has a maximum of 80,000 km
    • are less than two years old
      Exception: Only dedicated hand-control vehicles may be more than two years old.
    • have a full tank of gas
    • are properly cleaned and maintained
    • have British Columbia (B.C.) licence plates, and
    • have all-season (mud and snow) rated tires.
      Note: For additional information on winter tires, refer to the Winter tires section of this topic.
    Note: Budget has hand-controlled vehicles upon request at select locations, and where reasonably available with 48 hours' notice.

  • The service features Budget provides are
    • unlimited kilometres (km) for passenger vehicle rentals
    • 200 km per day for pick-up trucks to cube van class rentals
    • guaranteed availability, and a no-charge upgrade when a vehicle in the same class as the customer's vehicle is not available, for the following vehicle classes:
      Note: During major events in a location, at least 24 hours’ notice may be required.

    • after-hours key drop box at all locations

    • pick-up and drop-off services within 50 km of a Budget location at no-charge, and
      Note: This includes no-charge delivery to the repair facility when required.
    • no additional fees for drop-off within 50 km of a Budget location within the province of British Columbia (B.C.)

  • Select additional fees Budget allows when invoicing are
    • $0.30 per additional kilometre (km) per day beyond 200 km per day for pick-up truck to cube van vehicle classes
    • drop-off fee of $0.50 per km for a drop-off beyond 50 km radius of any Budget Car and Truck Rentals location within the province of B.C.
    • pick-up fee of $0.50 per km for pick-ups beyond 50 km radius of a Devon Transport Budget location
    • $0.57 per transaction day for Vehicle Licensing Fee (VLF) and Energy Recovery Fee, and
    • $12.00 per day extra for winter tires when provided.

Winter tires

Customers who request severe winter condition Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) tires on their rental vehicle
  • should have the same type of tires on their own vehicle, and
    Note: Consult your manager about any potential exceptions.
  • may exhaust their Loss of Use coverage faster due to the additional fee of $12.00 per day.
Exception: From October 1 to April 30, all Budget vehicles in the selected southern interior regions will automatically include 3PMSF winter tires at an additional fee of $12.00 per day.
