Repair facility requirements for recycled parts

Requirements for a repair facility to use recycled parts on an ICBC’s customer vehicle.

Requirements

The table presents the requirements that a repair facility must have when using recycled parts:

Parts check
  • All recycled parts must be visually inspected for any shipping damage by the repair facility prior to signing the delivery driver’s invoice.
  • If the repair facility cannot inspect the part upon delivery, they have one (1) business day to:
    • inspect the part for any damages, and
    • return the part for a full refund or exchange.
Usability and safety parts Whenever it is practical, it is the responsibility of the repair facility to:
  • determine the usability of the recycled parts, and
  • ensure there is no compromise of the safety of the vehicle prior to installation within three (3) business days of receiving the part.
Return policy If a recycled part is not acceptable, the repair facility will contact the recycled part supplier directly to return the part.

All returned parts must be returned:

  • in the same condition as when received
  • packaged appropriately to prevent damage, and
  • returned within 30 days of the initial sale whenever possible.
Administration and ordering The repair facility:
  • verifies with ICBC that the vehicle repairs can proceed before the repair facility can order the parts
  • must order all parts by ICBC claim number, and
  • attach a copy of the original invoice indicating the ICBC claim number to every repair account submitted for payment.
Part and supplier standards and warranty Repair facility is responsible to ensure the recycled part supplier and the parts used meets the requirements of the topic, Recycled parts requirements.
Note: When the recycled part supplier does not meet all the requirements, the repair facility must assume all warranty for the part.
Define required cuts Repair facility must clearly define the requirements of all welded panel cuts after it has been verified that the vehicle can be repaired.
Labour changes All labour changes to the Estimate or Appraisal must be approved by an ICBC estimator.
Labour compensation Repair facility requests for labour compensation on damaged parts supplied must be reasonable, and agreed to by the recycler before the parts are repaired or installed.
