Handle accelerated depreciation enquiry from an out of province non-responsible motorist

The claims representative addresses a third party’s concerns and adds the required information to the claim when the third party expresses concerns that their vehicle's value is diminished as a result of a crash involving an ICBC customer, for claims with a date of loss (DOL) on on May 1, 2021, or later.

When this applies

  • ICBC’s customer is responsible for a vehicle crash in a tort jurisdiction outside B.C., and
  • The not responsible out of province (OOP) motorist makes an accelerated depreciation (AD) claim against the customer’s Third Party Liability (TPL) coverage.
Note: ICBC is not involved in the AD portion of a claim when ICBC's customer is making a claim against an OOP motorist.

Procedure

  1. Add the following information to the claim:
    • note indicating the concern relates to accelerated depreciation on a third party’s vehicle
    • name of customer
    • customer contact number
    • time of day for the customer to be contacted at, and
    • whether the vehicle is owned or leased.
Important: For leased vehicles, the OOP Estimating team requires the lease agreement. OOP files for AD are retained by the OOP Estimating team.
  2. Create
    • an Accelerated Depreciation activity, and
    • assign the activity to the Estimating Assignment queue for Location 001 - Surrey Central Services 1st floor (OOP B.I Srvs).
