Handle out of province party's accelerated depreciation inquiry

The claim owner or exposure owner adds the required information to the claim, when the out of province third party expresses concerns that their vehicle's value is diminished as a result of a crash involving an ICBC customer.

Prerequisites

An ICBC customer is responsible for a crash in a tort jurisdiction outside British Columbia (B.C.) with an out of province motorist.

When this applies

The non-responsible out of province motorist makes an accelerated depreciation claim against the customer’s Third Party Liability (TPL) coverage.

Note: ICBC does not handle the accelerated depreciation portion of a claim, when ICBC's customer is making a claim against an out of province motorist.

Procedure

  1. Add the following information to the claim:
    • note indicating the concern relates to accelerated depreciation on a third party’s vehicle
    • name of customer
    • customer contact number
    • time of day for the customer to be contacted, and
    • whether the vehicle is owned or leased.
    Important: The out of province claims for accelerated depreciation are retained by the out of province estimating team.
  2. Determine if supporting documentation is required.
    If the vehicle … Then ...
    has any previous repaired collision claims request supporting documentation detailing
    • when the damage occurred, and
    • the cost of the damage.
    does not have any previous repaired collision claims proceed to step 3.
    is leased request the lease agreement.
  3. Create an EST - Out of Province - DRV activity, and add Accelerated Depreciation to the end of the subject line.
