Recycled parts purchases

List of what is included and excluded in the purchasing of a recycled part.

Purchase of a recycled part.

All parts can be purchased as recycled parts. When purchasing a part, it is important for all parties to understand what is included or excluded in that purchase.

Part Purchase price details
Air conditioning component All components must be capped and sealed at time of evacuation and dismantling of part.
Quarter panels All quarter panel cuts are discussed with the recycled part supplier, and the repair facility verifies with ICBC that the vehicle repairs can proceed prior to ordering the parts.
Doors Doors include:
  • base outer trim
  • handles
  • weather strip
  • specified glass, and
  • the window mechanism.
Doors do not include:
  • mirrors
  • seat belts
  • inner trim panels
  • hinges, and
  • electrical harnesses

All other attached parts are excluded unless:

  • agreed to by the estimator and the recycled part supplier, and
  • listed on the invoice.
Mouldings for doors, fenders, and quarter panels are not guaranteed to be correct unless there is a verbal confirmation between the estimator and the recycled part supplier.

Note: If one of the excluded items on the recycled door is included, the recycled part supplier is not responsible for the labour costs to remove the item(s). It is only be included when it has been agreed by both parties for extra labour and listed on the invoice.
Electrical All electrical components are:
  • checked by the recycled part supplier and tested, whenever possible, to ensure proper working condition prior to delivery, and
  • sold on an exchange basis.
    Note: The condition of the core must not be a factor in the exchange.
Major mechanical All major mechanical parts must be drained of all fluids by the repair facility prior to shipment. It is the repair facility’s responsibility to refill these parts with the appropriate fluids at time of installation.

Example of major mechanical parts are:

  • engines
  • transmissions
  • transfer cases, or
  • front and rear differentials.
All engines have heat tabs installed for warranty purposes, and are sold on an exchange basis.

The inspection cover or pan must be removed for visual inspection to ensure working condition with the pan gasket replaced, prior to delivery.

Note: All major mechanical parts are sold on an exchange basis and condition of core is not a factor, but a core must be complete, and returned in a dry condition. If not, then the engine is subject to an environmental surcharge.
Glass Heated glass must be inspected and tested by the recycler to ensure proper operation of the heating tabs and elements prior to delivery. The condition of glass must be determined and accurately represented by the recycled part supplier at the time of the initial parts request.
Radiators Radiators must be:
  • visually inspected
  • pressure tested to ensure proper working condition prior to delivery, and
  • radiator hose openings are capped.
Rear hatch assemblies Rear hatch assemblies must be supplied complete with glass and hinges, less struts and inner trim panel.Spoilers are not included in purchase price, unless it is agreed between the estimator and the recycled part supplier and listed on invoice.
Steering and suspension All steering and suspension components must be cleaned prior to delivery.
Suspensions Front and rear suspension assemblies include:
  • knuckles
  • hubs
  • lower control arms, and
  • struts, or
  • upper control arms.
Painting of suspensions parts by the recycled part supplier should be discussed between the estimator and the recycled part supplier prior to shipping the part.
Trunk lids Trunk lids are supplied complete with finish panels/reflector panels, and hinges, but do not include trunk racks, or spoilers, unless agreed between the estimator and the recycled part supplier and listed on the invoice.
