Paint and rust protection warranty

Steps for an estimator to determine if the paint and rust protection warranty is effective on a vehicle.

When this applies

When the customer indicates that their vehicle has or dealer-applied paint or rust protection applied, they need to provide proof of purchase. This is only an issue when there is a refinish application being completed on the vehicle.

If a customer has or dealer-applied paint/rust protection, the estimator must determine if the warranty is still effective.

Procedure

  1. Reviews the:
    • Customer’s proof of purchase, and
    • applicable warranty and product maintenance requirements.
  2. Determines whether the warranty is effective or not.
    If the warranty is... Then ...
    effective
    • apply the appropriate sublet amount to the estimate or
    • create a B00 estimate.
    Note: Paint and rust protection must be re-applied weeks after the vehicle has been refinished, as the paint may be dry to the touch but is still curing.
    not effective
    • negate the request, as no additional is amount paid to re-apply the paint or rust protection.
    Note: The customer would have to pay for any paint and rust protection.
  3. Create a note in regarding document(s).
  4. Send a copy of the documentation to the Document Capture Facility (DCF).
