Complete a vehicle teardown estimate

Steps for an estimator to complete an estimate on a vehicle teardown.

When this applies

A vehicle has sustained damage limiting the ability to complete an estimate and a vehicle teardown is required to determine a total loss when the vehicle repairs have not been started.

Procedure

  1. Determine whether a vehicle teardown is required.
    If … Then …
    yes
    • erase all estimate lines
    • using the TEARDOWN TO DETERMINE T/L pre-store from the ICBC templates, add teardown labour time and other applicable operations, if required, and
    • review and approve the teardown estimate.
no create a note that indicates no teardown is required in ClaimCenter
Note: There are additional items that may be included in the vehicle teardown payment, such as
    • evacuation of the air condition (A/C) system when the cost was incurred to facilitate the vehicle teardown
    • performing unibody/frame measurements to set up on a four point anchoring system when approve by ICBC, and
    • initial pull time when the repairs have not been started, and the vehicle must be estimated using the TEARDOWN TO DETERMINE T/LPre-store in Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE) at the sheet metal (SME) rate.
  2. Create reserves through the exposure.
    1. Update Cost Type: select Vehicle Repair/Replace.
    2. Update Cost Category: select Inspection.
    3. Enter the total dollar amount of the teardown estimate in the New Available Reserves.
    4. Save.
