Declared value vehicle equipment coverage
The additional vehicle equipment that can be included as declared value vehicle equipment that is covered under the Own Damage coverage.
Acceptable declared value equipment
Equipment of a motor vehicle that may be included in a customer's declared value equipment are the following:
- child safety harnesses and restraints, but only while in the motor vehicle, despite subsection 5.11 (d)
- snow or summer tires and wheels up to a maximum of four that are specified by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle, this includes four snow chains Exception: Tires and wheels of a commercial motor vehicle, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 5,000 kilograms (kg) are not included as declared valued equipment.
- motorcycle helmets up to two helmets, and a limit of $300 per helmet and must be approved motorcycle safety helmets under the Motor Vehicle Act regulations
- floor mats, sufficient for the motor vehicle
- rack carrier that is not permanently attached, to a maximum value of $1,000 for one only
- safety and repair tools, which includes the following items:
- one safety kit, to a maximum value of $250
- one wheel wrench
- seat covers specific to vehicle, including comfort seats, for the number of seats
- one tire cover
- one car jack
- one vehicle security alarm system, and
- one detachable hard or soft top
- custom paint finish, that is a paint finish other than one applied by the manufacturer of the vehicle or another similar paint finishException: Additional equipment does not include pin-striping, lettering, or sign painting.
- items permanently attached to a vehicle, which includes
- equipment attached to the vehicle by use of a tool or tools, and requires tools to remove
- application of a substance designed to protect the vehicle, such as undercoating and rust-proofing, and
- shuttle mount, a device by design, is used to attach to a motor vehicle sound and communication equipment that may be removed from the motor vehicle without tools for storage in another location, but cannot be operated in a location other than in the motor vehicle, and
- original manufacturer’s equipment (OEM), which is equipment that
- at the time the motor vehicle was manufactured it was available from the manufacturer as standard or optional equipment, and
- is attached to the motor vehicle by the manufacturer, manufacturer’s dealer or an owner of the motor vehicle, and includes replacement tires sufficient for the number of wheels of the motor vehicle that are of the size specified by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle.
Additional considerations
Sections 5.11 (d) and (e) of the Autoplan Optional policy influence
- Section 5.11(b) equipment coverage that is
- determined by vehicle rate group, and
- provided for loss or damage, and
- Section 5.11(c) equipment coverage, the
- premium for the vehicle insured under this division is determined by the declared value of the vehicle, and
- coverage is provided for loss or damage.
Coverage is provided under subsections (b) and (c) for loss or damage to equipment that was attached to or installed in a vehicle and at the time of loss or damage
- it remains attached to or installed in the vehicle, or
- is temporarily removed from the vehicle.
Equipment not included
Section 5.11(e) indicates that
- coverage does not include a
- device intended to circumvent law enforcement, including a radar detector, laser jammer or laser detector
- sound and communication equipment that is designed to be removable from the vehicle for operation in another location
- track conversion system that replaces one or more sets of tires or wheels required by the original design of a vehicle for its operation, or
- camper
- ICBC is not responsible to indemnify any person for theft of shuttle mounted sound and communication equipment, andException: If damage is caused to the vehicle or the building from which the equipment is taken by forcible entry into that vehicle or building, then coverage may be available.
- coverage for motorcycle safety helmets cannot exceed two helmets.
