What is an electronic authorization

Definition of an electronic authorization for the Write Off Agreement (CL96) form.

An electronic authorization for the CL96 form is the vehicle owner’s authorization sent to ICBC confirming the vehicle owner accepts the terms of the salvage release.

This authorization allows the:
  • transfer of the vehicle ownership and/or title to ICBC, and
  • vehicle to be released for sale at salvage.
The estimator or Vehicle Settlement Representative (VSR) can offer the vehicle owner the option to submit their electronic authorization or give a verbal authorization when the:
  • CL96 form is not signed at the initial appointment with the vehicle owner, or
  • vehicle owner is not required to visit a claims office.
