Salvage overview
Policy on processing salvage through Salvage Operations, who is permitted to purchase salvage, and what ICBC facilities can be used for.
Policy detail on salvage assets, vehicle disposal and use of ICBC facilities
When ICBC replaces or pays the declared or actual cash value (ACV) for a vehicle or its equipment, the salvage becomes the property of ICBC. All salvage is considered to have a cash recovery value.
All salvage assets must
- be processed and authorized through Salvage Operations, and
- not be disposed of without the authorization of either the Manager, Salvage Services or designate. Claims staff and independent adjusters are not permitted to dispose of salvage without the approval of either the Manager, Salvage Services or designate.
ICBC employees and members of their immediate family are not permitted to purchase any salvage, either directly or indirectly through a
- friend
- acquaintance
- family member, or
- other proxy.
ICBC facilities must not be used for
- rebuilding vehicles for sale
- servicing of vehicles for personal use or gain, or
- repairing personal vehicle or otherwise personal gain.
