Steps on handling solid bio-hazardous material found in a vehicle.
When this applies
When solid bio-hazardous materials are found in a vehicle being estimated (such as human remains), the estimator must follow the British Columbian (B.C.) corner’s specific requirements.
Procedure
-
Restrict access to the vehicle.
-
Leave all contents in the vehicle.
-
Contact the local (regional) BC Coroner’s Office, and provide details of the accident and the nature of the remains.
Important: Under no circumstances can the vehicle be moved from the location where the discovery was made (claims office, tow yard, etc.) before the Coroner or the Coroner’s representative has removed all the remains.
Result:
The coroner’s office removes the remains.
-
Arrange for the vehicle to be detailed once the remains have been removed.
