Policy on unsafe vehicles
ICBC’s policy on reporting unsafe vehicles is designed to help make BC’s roads safer for everyone.
Eligibility
The unsafe vehicles policy applies to all vehicles being seen due to a claim.
When it applies
The policy applies when, during an appointment or estimate, an estimator discovers a customer’s vehicle to be “unsafe” according to the specific criteria, due to non-claim related damage.
Policy Detail
ICBC will provide notice to Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) when a potentially unsafe vehicle comes to ICBC’s attention as a result of a material damage claim.
Rationale for policy
The policy is in place to
- assist in ensuring that vehicles meet provincial safety standards, and
- ultimately, reduce the risk of future crashes.
