Policy on windshield deductible

Policy on the windshield deductible for a claim.

Eligibility

The claim must meet the definition of windshield damage in the ICBC Autoplan Optional Policy- Division 5, Section 5.1 to qualify for the $200.00 deductible.

The damage must:

  • be caused by missiles or flying objects, and
  • occur to the transparent shielding at the front of the vehicle.

The $200 deductible applies to the entire claim.

If a rock bounces off the windshield and hits the roof of the car, the roof chip is also covered.

Policy

The deductible amount that applies to comprehensive coverage and windshield damage for a claim is defined in the ICBC Autoplan Optional Policy.

Customers are required to pay only a $200 deductible if they:

  • have purchased a $300 comprehensive deductible from ICBC, and
  • have a claim for windshield damage caused by missiles or flying objects.
Note: ICBC’s minimum comprehensive deductible is $300.

Rationale

This policy ensures customers pay the correct deductible for windshield damage.

Exceptions

The claim is not eligible for the $200 deductible when:

Cause of ineligibility

Example

The customer has purchased an ICBC comprehensive policy with a deductible greater than $300.

The customer has a comprehensive deductible of $500.

The damage is not caused by missiles or flying objects.

A falling tree causes windshield damage.

The transparent shielding at the front of the vehicle is not damaged.

Damage occurs to only the:

  • coloured portion of the shielding on a motorcycle, or
  • rear or side window of a vehicle.
