Authorize repairs on glass claim with additional damage

Steps to authorize repairs on glass claim with additional damage to the vehicle.

When this applies

In certain instances, customers attend a repair facility for a glass claim when there is additional damage other than one piece of glass (e.g. paint chips, body damage, scratches, etc). An ICBC written estimate form is used to process any additional damage.

Additional related paint and/or body damage has been observed by the glass facility

Procedure

  1. Repair facility
    1. Contacts ICBC for instructions on how to handle the glass claim.
      When the phone call is made ... Then the facility contacts ...
      during business hours Provincial Glass Operations (PGO) .
      outside of business hours Claims Contact Centre (CCC) at 604-520-8222.
  2. PGO
    1. Authorizes the glass replacement:
      When glass replacement... Then PGO
      would not interfere with repairs for the additional damage
      • authorizes the repair facility to proceed with the glass-only portion of the claim
      • creates a glass claim to facilitate the glass replacement, and
      • informs the repair facility to direct the customer to report the additional damage to CCC.

      The table features acceptable exception items that can be added to the claim based on the requirement of prior approval given by PGO.

      flat laminated windshields (flat glass) - cost of the glass and labour time not required.
      • mouldings (belt, sash, scalp)
      • interior trim
      • glass run channels
      • window regulator components
      • windshield wiper arms/blades/motors
      • a second piece of glass, or
      • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) clips
      required.
