Alternative Transportation Service exemptions
List of Alternative Transportation Services (ATS) exemptions.
Exempted vehicles
Alternative Transportation Service (ATS) is not applicable on the following vehicles:
- vehicles for hire, such as taxis and limousines
- rental vehicles
- car share vehicles, such as Evo, Car2Go, Modo
- vehicles insured under a garage or fleet policy with entitlement to downtime
- unregistered vehicles
- courtesy or shuttle vehicles other than the participant's
- police vehicles, fire-fighting vehicles, ambulances
- trailers
- motorcycles
- Class A and C Recreational Vehicles (RV’s), and
- vehicles with collector plates.
Note: Participants must contact ICBC to confirm if ATS is allowed for the following vehicle types at its discretion, as ICBC may consider allowing ATS if the vehicle is the customer’s main form of personal transportation.
- trucks, vans, and sports utility vehicles (SUV) above a one ton model
- modified vehicles, such as cube vans or flat decks
- ride hail vehicles, such as Uber or Lyft, and
- driving school vehicles.
Important: When supplying a courtesy vehicle to a customer, the participant must work with the customer to ensure that appropriate own damage coverage is in place.
Note: Participants may apply ATS compensation when repairing their owned or leased courtesy vehicle as part of an ICBC claim.
