Manage an unsafe vehicle driven to collision repair program facility

Collision repair program participants must follow steps to manage an unsafe vehicle driven to a collision repair program facility.

When this applies

When a vehicle is driven to a collision repair program facility by a customer with a valid ICBC claim number, and the claim-related damage has rendered the vehicle unsafe.

If possible, simple repairs should be done to make the vehicle safe to drive. Otherwise, the Alternative Transportation Service (ATS) grace days may apply.

Process

  1. Participant
    1. Uploads picture of the vehicle damage to Mitchell Cloud Estimating (MCE).
    2. Creates a Journal Note in MCE explaining the rationale for changing the estimate to non-drive, and
    3. Submits a Repair Facility Support Request form to request a review of the claim for the purpose of changing the vehicle status from drive to non-drive.
    4. Submits estimate and applies ATS grace days.
When the vehicle ... and the participant ... then ATS grace days ...
is designated a non-drive changes the estimate accordingly apply.
can be made safely driveable with simple repairs completes those repairs do not apply.
  2. ICBC
    1. Reviews information from participant.
    2. Provides instruction to the participant based on the review.
Important: If the participant’s request to change the status of a vehicle to non-drive is denied, they are responsible for any additional Loss of Use (LOU) or ATS costs incurred. Changing the status of a vehicle to non-drive should only be considered if a claim related safety issue exists. For more information, refer to the topic, Unsafe vehicle classification and criteria.
