Collision repair program and parts back-orders

The collision repair program facility explores an alternative option when vehicle parts are on back-order.

Options

When the collision repair program facility is advised of a documented back-order on an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) part that will cause all work on a vehicle to stop, the repair facility should consider alternative options as soon as possible.

The following are alternative options:

  • temporarily repair back-ordered part to facilitate continuation of the repair process
  • use alternative parts
  • repair rather than replacement of the part, or
  • complete the repairs sufficiently to make the vehicle roadworthy and arrange for the customer to return, at a later date, to have the part installed.
