Temporary Substitute Motor Vehicle Agreement requirements
Collision repair program participants must obtain ICBC’s prior written approval of a Temporary Substitute Motor Vehicle (TSMV) agreement when providing a participant owned or leased courtesy vehicle to the customer.
Requirement to use a TSMV agreement
The participant must
- provide the customer with a copy of the TSMV agreement
- obtain an acceptable deposit or credit card number, and
- confirm that the customer is not using another claim related Loss of Use (LOU) vehicle.
The participant must ensure the customer
- signs the TSMV agreement prior to the issuance of the substitute vehicle
- is a minimum age of 19 years or provides parental or guardian consent, and
- has a valid driver’s licence.
Participants must work with their customers to ensure that insurance is in place in the event the customer is legally liable for damage to the courtesy vehicle. Coverage may be available from the
- customer’s Own Damage coverage on their own vehicle pursuant to Section 5.6 of the Optional Policy
- coverage purchased by the customer for the courtesy or rental vehicle, such as Rental Vehicle Policy, RoadStar or Roadside Plus, or
- coverage from the courtesy or rental vehicle’s policy.
Important: Under terms of the Collision Repair Agreement, any TSMV agreement used must be pre-approved by the Supplier Programs and Administration department.
