Determine value of collector vehicle

Estimators determine the value of collector vehicles.

When this applies

Collector rated vehicles are not necessarily high value vehicles even though they are well maintained and in collectible condition. Estimators should have an estimated actual cash value (ACV) of a collector vehicle before approving major repairs.

Procedure

  1. Obtain all available information on the vehicle condition and servicing from the owner, including
    • service record, if owner maintained
    • servicing and part replacement supported by invoices
    • pictures showing each stage of the restoration, if the vehicle has been restored, and
    • dated pictures showing the recent condition of the vehicle, in the case of a total theft.
  2. Search for an advertised value or market value for the type of vehicle, using sources such as
    • Hemmings Motor News
    • Old Car Price Guide
    • National Old Car Auto Trader, and
    • Ultimate Collector Car Price Guide.
  3. Determine whether to consult with the Specialty Vehicle Appraisal unit.
