Burn-in refinishing allowances

Guidelines to apply burn-in refinishing allowances to refinish damaged vehicle panels.

Burn-in definition

Burn-in occurs when the replacement of a welded-on panel with visible, exposed, exterior joints results in unavoidable damage to a previously undamaged adjoining panel.

one or more additional areas of burn-in occur to

  • Welded Quarter Panel
  • Fender Replacement
  • Welded Box Side
  • Rocker Panel
  • Welded End Panel
  • Rear Lower Panel
  • Upper Deck Panel
  • Header Panel, and
  • Valance or Roof Panel Replacement

for each welded quarter panel or welded fender replacement

  • the applicable time(s) listed for burn-in refinishing, plus
  • clear coat (if applicable).

full aperture replacement has been specifically selected, and unavoidable burn-in damage occurs to a previously undamaged roof panel

the estimator’s best judgment time to refinish the area immediately affected by the replacement.

Removal of parts for painting on burn-in panels

Allowance for the removal of parts for painting on "burn-in" panels is as specified in the "Removal of Parts for Painting" agreement.
