Destructive weld testing

Information regarding destructive weld testing, establishing when destructive weld testing is considered a reimbursable operation on a collision repair estimate.

Description

Destructive weld testing is a quality assurance process of welding sample materials, representative of the vehicle being repaired, and physically destroying the welded joint to verify the strength and integrity of weld.

Eligibility

Destructive weld testing is eligible for payment only when replacing a weld on body components and must be performed prior to welding on the vehicle when required by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) procedures.
Note: Destructive weld testing is not applicable if the repair method is strictly bolt-on or when the procedure calls for rivets, adhesives and fasteners only. A panel repair that requires welding, such as a tear, is not eligible for payment.
