De-nib and finesse policy
During the refinish process, defects in the paint may occur, such as dust particles, known as nibs. A repair facility is required to document when a de-nib and finesse process is required on a panel. The repair facility must upload photos supporting evidence that sanding was applied to each panel documented on the repair estimate.
Description
De-nib and finessing includes the removal of small, isolated dust particles, known as nibs, by sanding away the surface defect and applying a finishing glaze (polish) to restore the gloss. After refinishing any outer panel, it may be necessary to nib sand, or de-nib, any particles found within the final finish.
Eligibility
ICBC may pay for this operation only when a claim related refinish operation has been completed and photos of the de-nib and finesse process has been provided.
Note: For de-nib and finesse of exterior surface areas, an allowance of .2 per base refinish hour (20%) applies, excluding overlap and clear coat. On blended panels, the allowance should apply to the full panel refinish time. De-nib and finesse does not apply to inner refinishing.
