When to assign an accountant or economist

Policy on when it is appropriate to assign a financial professional from the approved lists of accountants and economists.

Policy

Claims representatives who require financial loss investigation support, must determine if a claim is eligible to be assigned to a financial professional from the approved lists of accountants and economists, before the assignment can be requested.

If defence counsel (DC) determines a financial investigation expert is required, they must review it with the claims representative before taking action. For a claims representative and/or DC to retain an accounting firm or economists firm for a claim, they must refer to ICBC's approved list of firms available in Accountants and Economists, and select one of those firms.

Services are retained through standard communication methods, such as phone, email, or letter, and providing documentation for review.
