Definition of tire advance disposal fees and tread codes.

The tire advance disposal fees (ADF) is a fee collected on new tire sales and reinforced by the Tire Stewardship British Columbia Association (TSBC). The TSBC operates and manages the provincial scrap tire recycling program.

Exclusions from the ADF

The recycling regulation excludes tire types that are

  • used for cycles, wheelchairs, or three wheeled motorized devices designed for the transportation of people with physical disabilities
  • used for aircraft or wheelbarrow
  • retail value of less than $30.00
  • recapped and re-trend tires, and
  • tread codes for C, E, G.L, or IND.

Tread codes are referred to as

  • grader/loader,
  • small-off the road, or
  • industrial tires.

Tread codes Definitions
Small off the road tires
  • Tires of truck type construction for off road applications without Department of Transportation (DOT) approval, and
  • conventional sizes smaller than 16 inches cross section and wide base sizes smaller than 20.5 inches cross section.
Large off the road tires
  • Tires of truck type construction for off road applications without DOT approval, and
  • conventional sizes 16 inches and greater cross section, and wide base sizes of 20.5 inches and greater cross section.
Industrial tires Identified with a sidewall marking of IND.
