Electronic signatures for claim estimates policy

Guidelines on how authorization is electronically obtained on a glass or collision claim estimate.

Policy

ICBC provides options for repair facilities to complete the Customer's Statement section on a claim estimate, including electronic signatures, as an alternative to obtaining a customers physical signature in person.

This applies to certain forms referred to as CL14s, including
  • Collision repair estimate “A suffix” and any additional estimate suffix form requests (such as B, C, D), and
  • Glass Claim Report and Payment requisition (CL14BX) form.

Suppliers must ensure that electronic communication with customers complies with ICBC’s documentation requirements and all applicable legislation, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and Canada’s AntiSpam Legislation (CASL).

Supporting documentation, including electronic copies of the signed claim estimates, must meet general documentation and storage requirements outlined in the
  • Collision repair program guide
  • Glass repair program guide, or
  • Commercial collision repair program guide.

The Customer's Statement section of the estimate can be completed by

  • electronic signature, or
  • wet ink signatures that are scanned/photographed, and emailed back to repair program participant..
