Loss of Use priority of payment
A priority of payment list for Loss of Use (LOU) when a customer has access to multiple sources of LOU coverage, such as roadside plus and Basic Vehicle Damage coverage.
Priority of payment
LOU coverage is accessed based on a priority sequence when the customer has multiple sources of LOU coverage available.
Note: A customer cannot access other sources until the initial priority limits are exhausted. This is a general rule as it progresses down the priority list.
| First priority |
|
| Second priority | Optional Loss of Use |
| Third priority | Loss of Use due to theft |
| Fourth priority | Basic Vehicle Damage coverage |
| Fifth priority | The responsible party's Third Party Liability (TPL) coverage |
LOU limit per day
Customers who have more than one source of LOU cannot stack coverages for a greater daily limit.
- Cannot stack LOU sources for greater limit per day, and
- exposure owner must ensure rental vehicle daily cost does not exceed limit per day of each LOU source.
LOU total limit
- In most cases, customers who have more than one source of LOU can combine coverages to extend their total limit.
Garage LOU limit per day and total limit exceptions
When a garage service operator (GSO) is responsible for damaging a customer's vehicle, the customer has access to the garage's LOU coverage, which has a
- maximum limit of $2000, and
- daily limit of $100.
These limits cannot be combined or stacked with a customer's own LOU limits.
Note: For more information, refer to the topic Garage policy.
LOU due to theft limit per day exception
The priority of coverage can be modified for customers whose vehicle is stolen and LOU coverage has a daily limit of less than $40. In this case, the priority may be modified in order for the customer being able to use a higher daily limit first.
