Commercial supplier labour rate requirements

Requirements for commercial supplier to qualify for heavy equipment labour rates and services.

Rate

The commercial transport industry includes many different types of heavy equipment vehicles that take specialized knowledge and equipment. Suppliers must meet specific requirements qualify for the commercial/heavy equipment labour rates.

Repair facilities that specialize in repairing heavy equipment vehicles and their machinery require specialized tools, equipment, and facilities. This entitles them to a higher labour rate than facilities that may provide limited truck or commercial vehicle repairs using facilities that were designed mainly for repairing automobiles.

Important: The Manager, Commercial Claims must approve the assignment of the Heavy Equipment Business Type in Vendor Master.

Labour rate

The labour rate for heavy equipment suppliers takes into account many factors, such as

  • the larger repair stall size
  • the longer turnaround time to complete repairs, and
  • the parts price structure.

Core requirements

To qualify for the heavy equipment labour rate the facility must meet all the following criteria:

ICBC supplier

Commercial/Heavy Equipment suppliers must meet all the general ICBC supplier requirements.

Primary business

Primary business of the repair facility must be repairing or refinishing commercial transport vehicles.

Vehicle accommodation

Facility must be designed to accommodate repairs to Class 8 trucks or trailers without requiring partial disassembly.

Signage and advertising

Facility must have business signage and published advertising that indicates they perform repairs of Commercial Transport vehicles.

Facility business type

One of the following Supplier System – Facility Business Types must be assigned to the repair facility: (03) Heavy Equipment Dealer, (47) Heavy Equipment Independent, or (48) Heavy Equipment Specialty.

Service requirements

In addition to the above requirements, the repair facility must provide at least one of the following services:

Mechanical and collision repairs

Full mechanical and collision repairs with complete service for all drive train components.

Refinishing

Refinishing capability, with a spray booth that:

  • has a minimum size of 16' H x 40' L
  • is of a steel manufactured design, meeting
    • all applicable Federal, Provincial, Municipal and Regional District laws, and
    • all health, safety and environmental regulations, and
  • has an air make-up unit capable of providing thermostatically controlled heated air.

Frame repair

Full truck and trailer frame repair capability with a manufactured, drive-on, designed frame machine. The frame machine must be capable of all frame repair functions including multi-pull or push operations.
